Catch Report

January 2021

January started off with yet more uncertainty with us wondering if we were going to be able to stay open throughout another national lockdown, although we were very pleased after following guidance from The Angling Trust - we were able to continue to remain open to our wonderful anglers. On the whole, the month has been very mild with only a couple of frosty mornings! Now with final days of January passing, it really feels like Spring is close by with the snowdrops in full bloom and lighter evenings just appearing, the lakes at Chalk Springs remain crystal clear.

The winter fishing this month has been very good with the cooler water temperature from our spring fed lakes, the fish have been great for chasing down flies and with some days the fish being just under the surface! not without mentioning the Artic Charr have also been popular this month with our anglers, some proving to be difficult to catch with a lot of patience needed!. When you do hook into one - they fight really well!

This month has also been a productive one ensuring we have been carrying out ongoing maintenance on our fish farm, and not forgetting welcoming some recent deliveries of both rainbow and brown trout. We have also made provisional plans for our new air system, which we will be working on in February.

We would also like to take the opportunity to again thank you all for your continued support throughout what has been a difficult time for us all. We are so grateful for everybody who has visited us this month, we hope to continuing welcoming you in the next coming weeks.

With the COVID-19 pandemic still at the forefront of our minds, we would also like to take this opportunity to remind all of our anglers of your health and safety on site please ensure to adhere to the current social distancing rules. The gutting area still remains closed, as well as the weighing room and the waterside lodge and our reception area. Flies and a small selection of tackle are still available to purchase from the fishery, please ask on arrival for more information.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

December 2020

The month has started off well with consistent catches for most anglers. The smaller flies, damsels and black hot head flies seeming to do be faring well. As with winter fishing the fish have tended to come on certain times with mid-morning or late afternoons doing well. Plenty of our larger brownies are being caught.

We held our annual Brass Monkeys competition during the month with a great turn out of veteran and new anglers. The day started off with a social distanced breakfast before the anglers embarked onto the lakes.   Plenty of lovely fish came out with some beautiful hard fighting Arctic Char and big rainbows. Mrs Bromwich bagged up early with the biggest Arctic char of the day. Which she commented “fought like a steam train”

We broke for lunch at midday with some scrumptious soup and artisan bread, which warmed everyone up for round 2.

Fishing commenced with some great bag limits taken. Our member and regular Paddy Hill just by a whisker managed to catch the heaviest bag. Which earned him the coveted Brass Monkey trophy. Well done Paddy!

We will plan more special days soon due to the popularity from the last few competitions held of late. Watch this space……..

We would like to remind anglers to take extra caution of the banks when fishing around the lakes due to the adverse weather conditions of late.

Nick, Dan would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and safe and Happy New 2021. We look forward to welcoming you back in the New Year.

With the Covid pandemic we will remind all anglers to please adhere to social distancing and to download NHS track and trace and to please scan in when you arrive at the fishery (we have the QR codes by the ticket office) . The gutting area will remain closed as with the Fishing Lodge and ticket office…. Please feel free to use our hand sanitizers on site.

Flies and light tackle will still be available for purchase as will light refreshments. Please enquire.
